How did you get into debt?
Most is student loan debt. The remainder is from dealing with divorce from an abusive husband & being diagnosed with Sleep Apnea & Narcolepsy at the same time.

How does your economic reality effect your art?
Other than being unable to afford supplies, my economic situation means that I have significantly less time and energy to devote to art. I have narcolepsy, so time and energy are extremely tight to begin with. My son is my priority above all else, so I choose to work a job with a reliable paycheck and good health insurance. I've had to learn how to be much more patient with my creative self, and to be open to the art that emerges from what I do have.

Would your work look different if you weren't in debt?:
It would have to look different, wouldn't it? I believe art is one of the truest reflections of self, affected by who we, our lives, and our perspectives. It might not be comfortable to admit we would change something about ourselves based off money, but the reality is that our entire perspective shifts as our lives and circumstances do.
