How did you get into debt?
I incurred student loan debts during my education at a public university and two private conservatories. I also incurred debt from the costs of travel and work as an artist when the fees have not covered the actual cost of the project, and in connection with housing.
How does your economic reality effect your art?
I am always aware of how unstable and financially risky it is to be an artist. I spend more time searching for ways to finance my art than I spend on the art making itself, and this becomes tiring. I survive on very little, and am aware it could disappear at any moment. I feel solidarity with everyone in the world who is experiencing (or has experienced) financial insecurity. I would like to see the value gap closed. I don´t understand why we as a society are willing to pay those who engage in harmful activities (war, weapons trade, environmental destruction, drugs, gambling with finances) with very high wages, but pay those who engage in life-sustaining activities (teaching, healthcare, ministry, farming, art) at very low rates. It makes no sense to me.
Would your work look different if you weren't in debt?:
If I weren´t in debt I could invest more in my music - both time and equipment.
