How did you get into debt?
I bought my house and my wife build up her education business.
How does your economic reality effect your art?
I don't believe art should be about money necessarily. But the reality is that to make quality work, you have to spend a lot of money. I do have some "dream projects" that my economic reality has made it difficult to realize. I would like to work with a more generous budget, but the pressure of debt cause me to feel anxious about devoting too much money to my work.
Would your work look different if you weren't in debt?:
Without the pressure of debt, I would be able to spend more money on materials — perhaps even use different materials. I would also buy better tools. Currently, I work with materials that are largely recycled, even found on the street. I often find myself worried about how "low budget" my work appears.
