How did you get into debt?
primarily real estate
How does your economic reality effect your art?
Like everything else, there is differentiation of expenses into "needs" and "wants." Projects requiring very expensive equipment, materials, or travel may be put off, done under a time pressure with rentals, or simply abandoned. In the development phase I tend to "make do" with less expensive components until I am ready to make the final product using exactly the right materials. I don't spend as much on advertising and promotion as I should, which obviously affects sales. I probably am not as adventuresome in exploring new processes because of the added expense.
Would your work look different if you weren't in debt?:
Yes: I would be less timid about trying larger projects and works that require expensive materials, equipment, or processes.
