How did you get into debt?
Education. Even with sizable a scholarship in undergrad and a teaching opportunity in grad school, I ended up in debt for life.
How does your economic reality effect your art?
I have an extremely tight budget for space and materials. I can afford to make around 15 paintings per year. I recently bought a cheap table saw so I could build my own stretchers, as I can't afford pre-made ones at the quantity and scale I need. Even when I make large sums of money it immediately goes to my credit debt, accrued when buying supplies.
Would your work look different if you weren't in debt?:
I'm not sure it would look different, but I'm certain I would make more of it if I weren't in debt.
