Yikui (Coy) Gu

Just Not With A White Girl, 2016, oil, acrylic, charcoal on bristol board, half smoked joint, silicone, & Wonder Bread plastic bag on canvas, 30 x 35 inches.
How did you get into debt?
30 year fixed rate mortgage

The Hard Part Is Already Over, 2016, oil, acrylic, coins, marker, & colored pencil and pen on bristol board collaged on canvas.
How does your economic reality effect your art?
It is more difficult and riskier to attempt more ambitious works due to costs and issues of storage. Space becomes another issue, as having a mortgage precludes me from renting a studio, therefore a room in my house has become the work space, and its size has limited my works.

Selfie, Urinal, 2013, charcoal on paper, 9 x 12 inches.
Would your work look different if you weren't in debt?:
Yes, I would attempt more ambitious works, and not be as limited by materials, size, and storage.
