How did you get into debt?
Circumstances that forced me to take a business loss, then further, a series of large scale, burdensome circumstances, in rapid succession of each other, which derailed my focus from my work. I have had to use credit cards to buy food. Also the importance of having needed art materials. If I need art supplies, I will use a credit card and accrue further debt, rather than forfeiting materials (within reason)
How does your economic reality effect your art?
Limited resources determine what I am able to make, as far as materials and space. The debt reinforces this, funds coming in cannot be allotted for future and present projects. bondage to past. The stress of this can be counter productive. I am someone who has given money to my mother my whole life. There is no cushion or safety net or family support. My mother worked as a textile designer and raised three children by herself. There is little understanding of (the criticality) my situation in an affluent art world, or an affluent city like NYC. People assume you have support. That even people who have support, are struggling, and the lack of differentiation in individual realities is a big problem, & breeds division, as are do limited available resources . This affects me.
