How does your economic reality effect your art?
If I have enough money to work in the studio full-time, I can take care of very practical concerns: I can buy more supplies, work larger, and spend time caring for my inventory and keeping things organized. I can afford to photograph my work, frame the work, and archive the work. I can be more grounded and single-minded, both in practice and in the actual imagery of my work. More time allows for a depth of focus and a sense of expansion and play that can move my work into a new direction. When there is more space in my life, there is more space in the paintings. I am happier, more productive and more inventive artistically when I am working full-time in the studio, and I am much more engaged and successful in my career.
