How did you get into debt?
My debts are all from my college tuition. I had to get a student parent plus loan to pay off my school tuition and I still have tuition left to pay not including the loan.
Describe your art practice
I am a Korean-born artist, currently living in New York. I am very interested in Korean Philosophy in art and life; especially, Korean philosophy in traditional house (Han-ok). I execute my interest in philosophy of Korea by using traditional fabrics, wood, and paint to enforce my cultural influence. Liaison presents my relationship with life and family. As a child born between an architect and a Hanbok designer, I was very influenced by both genres of art. I wanted to address my on-going inspiration and hindrance from my family. In addition, as time goes by, the birch will lose it's thickness as it loses life and the color of the fabric will eventually fade, which presents an idea of life and death.
Would your work look different if you weren't in debt?:
I would not think that my debt will have a lot of effect on my work from school; however, I would have had more freedom to express in materials, size, and ideas if I had no burden on money.
