How did you get into debt?
Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Bachelors degree
Describe your art practice
Choosing to be a painter was also choosing to take a huge risk, financially, before even entering the adult economic world, but I knew this is what I had to do. I paint with anything I can get my hands on, spray paint, Tyvek, house paint, and in the rare case that I have received a check large enough, Old Holland oil paint and the best canvas I can buy. I am not interested so much in a sleek surface as a powerful message, though high-quality materials do help. I have always been interested in human nature, our psyche, what we say aloud versus what we keep inside, etc.
Would your work look different if you weren't in debt?:
I would have more time to focus on the execution of the work, using proper materials rather than things that I have scraped together. I would also be able to more easily attend Graduate School.
