I am not in debt financially. I am lucky that my parents paid for my art education and they continue to support me financially and in every other way. I am in debt to them completely.
I work in a gallery part time helping with exhibitions. I am also a life drawing model. These two jobs just barely cover my food and rent. My parents give me money each month to pay for what my work income does not.
Not that I have the desire to do so, but if I wanted to make something that strongly upset my parents, that might affect the money they would be willing to give me. My low income affects what I am able to produce in terms of how ambitious a project can be. It means that I have to borrow things that I need, making me even more depenent on the generosity of others, which can affect self esteem from constantly being needy and unable to support myself. It also means that I can't really say no to any opportunities that are paid, even if they are underpaid.
