How did you get into debt?
Undergraduate and Graduate education, exhibiting and performing without payment, paying for supplies, paying for studio space
"Cast of 40 Volume," 2016, vases, dirty socks, hair gel, artificial flowers, foam croissant, chained dong
How does your economic reality effect your art?
I have to work a full time job to earn enough money to manage my debt and keep benefits to treat a medical condition. I work 40 hours a week at a primary job and keep side jobs to supplement my income. This leaves me with very little time to produce work and very little energy to see work.
"Love Don't Live Here Anymore," 2015, denim, fabric, newspaper
Would your work look different if you weren't in debt?:
Yes. Not in terms of materials but in terms of volume and frequency. It would "look" or exist a lot more often.
